I recall that first day my son was born, the shock and feeling overwhelmed, asking myself why us?
Today, I feel blessed, because my special needs son is my inspiration to help other families. Yes, a life of medical appointments and hospital stays is not something I bargained for, but I wouldn’t change a thing. I’m grateful for every moment and to be part of such an amazing community. I’m grateful that it pushed me to grow, to become a better person, mom, wife, professional and led me to my coaching career. It led me to realize that circumstances do not define me, my life or my future, to understand that things do not happen to us but for us.
As a special needs mom, I started out on the victim side and things were tough. All of my circumstances were making me feel overwhelmed, stressed, worried. I reached a point where I felt that something had to change and give – it could not continue that way. I was blessed to come across Bob Proctor’s materials and took the jump into a personal growth coaching program. I’ve never looked back.
This personal growth journey changed my life. Today, I welcome challenges. I have come to realize that a crisis is a door to opportunities, if we are able to recognize it. It’s a wonderful time to reinvent yourself. More importantly, I have realized how much power my thoughts have on the world I had created for myself. No, I never asked for a son with special needs, but my mindset wasn’t the best and I had some growing up to do.
So today, I am passionate about helping others live the life they deserve – happy, fulfilled, balanced. I also know that my son can have a bright future, regardless of current circumstances and his disability because circumstances do not define him – only his thoughts. I’ve learned that I get to create my own reality and can teach him the same, and the sky is the limit.
Working on yourself is not always easy – it requires a lot of stretching, being committed, and slowly changing the inside. But when you do it, a few months later, you wake up as a new person and feel amazing. The world is truly ahead of us, to be created and to be enjoyed.
Thank you to my inspiration – my little Paolo.
To my parents readers: You all deserve to feel the same way and you absolutely can. I would be honored to help you if that’s something you are interested in.
